Palpitations is a very broad term in medical terms.

Palpitations can be used for a variety of feelings that a patient might experience that may include, but not limited to – a feeling abnormal awareness of one’s own heart beat, or that the heart is beating too forcefully, specially when lying to the left side. Sometimes patient may experience rapid or fast heart beat, or sometimes very slow heart beat or pulse.

Patient may experience nausea or vomiting with palpitations. Sometimes, there may be a sense of chest pain or chest heaviness along with palpitations.

Common causes of palpitations include:
