A deranged lipid Profile is one of the common reasons for seeking medical consultation.
A deranged lipid Profile is associated with harmful instances like – #HeartAttack , #Stroke, Paralysis, Pancreatitis, Gall Bladder Stone, peripheral arterial disease, diabetes mellitus, heightened risk of certain cancers, and other problems, including cosmetic ones – like xanthelasma, etc.
Xanthelasma in simple terms, is a skin condition where there are lipid deposits that can be seen – like yellowish-brownish discoloration of ill defined growth, especially around eyes.
These xanthelasma are associated with high risk of cardiac disease including heart attacks.

A lipid profile has many constituents including – Triglycerides, Total Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, VLDL and many ratios.
High levels of cholesterol, triglycerides predisposes a person to heart disease, aortic valve disease and pancreatitis and gall stones.
High levels of LDL are directly linked with blockages and heart attacks.
High levels of HDL are protective, shown in some studies, for heart disease, however, there are some conflicting results.
Apo Lipoprotein (a) is coming up as a new marker for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
The important thing to note here is that there are various class of medications that are designed to target different raised components of these cardiovascular markers of atherosclerosis (blockages)- and hence the same medications may not work or may even be harmful to an individual if not tailored to individual requirement. There is no one pill to treat all, at least not yet.
Apart from medications, there are certain things that a person can do themselves, that may help to an extent, and may even curtail the need of starting one on medications, in some cases- like,:–>
Regular exercise, try to walk about 10, 000 steps a day, or atleast 6000 steps. Do not exert yourself. Try to walk at your own natural pace. The steps and the distance covered are more important than the speed.
Eat a healthy diet– say no ghee, butter, makhan, malai, khoya and sweets. Eat more of green vegetables and dry fruits and seasonal fruits. More of fiber. Avoid Fried foods. Avoid Sugar and Sugar Sweetened beverages,
Avoid stress. There is no need to say, that stress in any form- physical, mental, emotiona, work related has a negative impact on the health.
Stop Smoking, Stop alcohol. Yes, Stop.
