What are the different types of pacemakers?
There are mainly two different types of pacemakers – Single Chamber Pacemakers (that stimulate only 1 chamber of the heart) or dual chamber pacemaker (thar stimulate 2 chambers of the heart)

What precautions do I have to take after pacemaker?
Most pacemakers these days MRI 1.5-3T compatible. Still, no doctor is going to advise to go near a MRI machine, however high end machine you might have got implanted. This is practical.
One usually asks not to lift weights more than 5 kgs or hand above the head for the first month – which is not much of a problem.
One should try and avoid using mobile phones/tablets on the side of the pacemaker implantation.
One should also avoid going near a running microwave.
Timely checkups are important.
Rest, special precautions according to you as an individual will be told by your doctor.
Do not soil/wet your bandaged area and do not scrape it – is just common sense, and should not be done.
What happens when the battery gets over? How long does a Pacemaker battery last?
It depends – usually pacemaker batteries last between 7-10 years, some even more, some slightly less. It depends on the usage of the pacemaker. If all the heart beats is being paced or supported – then battery will last slightly less. If only some beats are paced – then battery will last longer. So the correct answer is, it depends on many factors.
When your battery is near end- which is found out at routine evaluation – your cardiologist will ask you to get a near device implanted.
If your device is under warranty – the new device will be free, and only surgery cost is to be given and medicine cost.
If the device is not under warranty, then one would need to get a new device after paying for it.
So, Agra heart centre always asks patient’s and suggests devices that come with good warranty period – so as to reduce future cost to the patient.
